6th Grade Boys
Eagle Ridge: 23, River Bend: 40
For the second week in a row, the Eagles Boys 6 played an excellent opponent virtually even in the first half—being tied with the River Bend Ravens 15-15 at intermission. The second half once again proved to be their undoing, losing their fifth game of the season 40-23 Playing strong defense throughout the game, the Eagles offense struggled mightily in the second half, totaling only 7 points over the final two periods. The Ravens strong inside game also enabled them to control the boards. Erik Thysse led the Eagles with 7 points (on 3-3 shooting); Tristan Miller chipped in 6 points; and Blake Ratliff had 4 points. Logan Reed, Kristian Bustamante, and Adam Lewis rounded out the scoring with 2 points each. Adam Lewis, Blake Ratliff, and Erik Thysse each grabbed four rebounds, leading the Eagles' weak day on the boards. With their record now at 2-5, the Eagles look to regroup next week against the Harper Park Hurricanes.
7th Grade Girls
Eagle Ridge: 39, Smarts Mill: 19
The Eagles 7th Grade Girls team got back on the winning track by beating the Smarts Mill Mustangs 39-19. The Eagles controlled the tempo of the game from the opening tip-off with their fast-break offensive game. On the defensive end, the Eagles mixed it up throughout the game, playing zone, half-court trap, full-court trap and tight man-to-man defense. Murielle Tiernan led the scoring with 15 points, Alyssa Papazian with 8 points, Tori Panzica and Emily Person, each with 6 points, and Kelsie Hidalgo with 4 points. Tiernan, Papazian, Shauna Gaines, and Amanda Burcak controlled the boards for the Eagles.
7th Grade Boys
Eagle Ridge: 45, Smarts Mill: 51
In a disappointing loss to Smarts Mill, the Eagles Boys 7 showed they can give it their all when they are down. After a slow start, they were down 26-12 at half time. The Eagles pulled it together in the second half, only to lose the game, 51-45. The comeback was lead by key shots from Kevin Bradshaw, Trace McSorley, Bubba Lough and Warren Miles. The Eagles pulled ahead 45-39 with 1:45 left. Smarts Mill fought back in the game with consecutive 3 pointers. The Eagles' defense was strong, but ultimately they needed more defensive rebounds. The leading rebounders were Michael Lord, Warren Miles, Bubba Lough and Trace McSorley. This is a tough loss to take into the bye week, but the Eagles can pull from the intense second half effort, and turn it on for the final 3 games of the season.
8th Grade Girls
Eagle Ridge: 33, Smarts Mill: 46
The Eagle Ridge Girls 8 lost to the Smarts Mill Mustangs, 46-33, in a game much closer than the final score indicates. As has been a disturbing pattern all season, the Eagles got off to a very slow start, yielding the first 8 points of the contest. The Mustangs quickness and hot outside shooting caused problems for the Eagle defense, leading to a 20-7 first quarter deficit. The Eagles made some defensive adjustments and it paid off, holding the Mustangs to just 6 points in the second quarter to trail 26-16 at halftime. The Eagles executed their offense as well as they have all season, but often failed to finish off plays. Their 16 first half points was still a season high Their outstanding offensive execution continued during the second half as they chipped away at the Mustang's lead. With about 2:30 to go in the game, Courtney Mahoney converted a 3 point play to trim the Mustang's lead to 38-33, but the Eagles could get no closer despite several opportunities. The Mustangs closed the game on an 8-0 run in the final minute 1:30, as the Eagles were forced to foul and gamble on defense. Ashley O'Neill led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points, while Courtney Mahoney continued her strong play with 7 points. Eryn Mahoney had 5 points and Amanda McDermott had 2 points to complete the Eagles' scoring. The Eagles continue to show improvement, as their 33 points represents their best offensive showing of the year. Eryn Mahoney had her best game of the season, contributing several blocked shots and dominating the boards. Courtney Mahoney and Victoria Gilbride also contributed heavily to the Eagles best rebounding effort of the season. Julia Sandgren and Ryan Braumann played strong defense during the Eagles' rally.
8th Grade Boys
Eagle Ridge: 38, Smarts Mill: 50
The Eagle Ridge Boys 8 lost to undefeated Smarts Mill, 50-38, in a league game at Smarts Mill. The Eagles fell behind 14-1 quickly at the start of the game, and could not make up that difference, despite outscoring Smarts Mill 31-24 in the second half. Isaac Lylerly Pina scored 9 points from his point guard position, with Andrew Lee and Jacob Brown adding 8 points apiece. Christopher Holoman grabbed 10 rebounds from the tough Smarts Mill team.
