APEX Gymnast Receives Invitation to Junior Olympic Nationals
Avis Hixon and coach Marty Newsom at Level 10 Regionals
(May 11, 2008) - APEX Level 10 Gymnast, Avis Hixon, received a call early Saturday morning inviting her to join the team representing Region 7 at the Level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals in Kissimmee, Florida on May 15 - 18th. Avis was named an alternate at the Regional competition, but due to gymnast injury has been called upon to perform at the championships. The regional team is made up of the top 7 athletes in the region. Upon receiving the call, the coaching staff and her family have been making travel arrangements and upgrading her workouts this week to prepare her for competition. Avis was well into her new skill training when the call came in, but will quickly switch back to routine training in preparation for this event. She will attend the training day on Friday and compete on Sunday, the 18th. In addition to competition, athletes have the opportunity to attend a welcome banquet and do some sight seeing. Avis will attend Towson University in the fall and plans to compete on their gymnastics team. Congratulations Avis and good luck!

APEX Crowned State Champion
(May 7, 2008) - Rebecca Henry, a Level 7 gymnast was recently crowned the state champion on balance beam at the State Championships in Newport News, Virginia. APEX had 20 gymnasts competing in the Level 6 & 7 State Championships last weekend and all gymnasts had very successful outings. Gymnasts were led by Caitlin Villavicencio and Cassidy Gagnon at level 6 who each finished 6th in the all around in their age group. Caitlin was also 2nd on bars and Cassidy was 4th on floor. The level 6 team finished 10th in team competition out of ** teams in the state. The level 7s were led by Rebecca Henry who won balance beam and finished 5th in the all around and Madison O’Braitis who finished 2nd on balance beam and 3rd in the all around competition.

BULLDOG BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP
(May 5, 2008) - This program is intended to improve overall skill and basketball fundamentals for boys entering grades 3 through 12. This will be a fun, but competitive environment. The camp will work to develop skills in the areas of dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding, and defense. Competitions include 5 on 5, 1 on 1, Free-Throw Shooting, and Hot Shot. APEX Gymnast Finishes 10th at Level 10 Regionals!

(April 29, 2008) - Congratulations to Level 10 Regional Qualifier Avis Hixon, who just finished her senior competitive season at the Level 10 Regional Championships in Newport News, VA. Avis had a fantastic meet. She hit all of her routines and finished 10th on the floor exercise and in the All-Around competition.
Avis finished the meet on floor, where her dynamic floor routine with two double-back flips and a full-twisting front layout were crowd pleasers. Finishing one place outside of the alternate spot to National Championships, Avis will now spend her last months at APEX preparing for college gymnastics at Towson University outside of Baltimore.

(April 21, 2008) - NOVA A.C.’s newcomer Brian Dove, a middle school student from Leesburg, has begun the 2008 outdoor season with literally a “flying” start. In last week’s “Hannah Skym”, Chantilly Youth Association Invitational, Dove won the Intermediate Boys (15-16 years) 100 (11.37), 200 (23.65) and 400 Meters (58.38). On Saturday, in the Middle School 100 Meter race in the Allen Johnson Invitational Meet at Lake Braddock High School, Burke, Dove was again victorious.

NFL Youth Flag Football League 2008 Fall Registration
(April 15, 2008) - The Ashburn based NOVA “NFL” Youth Flag Football League 2008 Fall League Season registration is now taking place online at www.novaflag.com. As in previous years, registration is expected to be heavy. The 2008 Fall League Season will mark the 11th Year that “NFL Flag” is being offered through NOVA Youth Flag Football to local community Residents. The League is open to all children ages 5 through 14 years of age. Practices begin in late August with games running through to the end of November. Briar Woods Boys Summer Basketball Camp 2008
(April 14, 2008) - This year's Briar Woods basketball camp will run Monday through Friday from July 21st to the 25th. The summer camp is a full day from 9:00 a.m-3:00 p.m for boys entering grades 6 through 9. The cost of the camp will be $125 per camper. It is an advanced fundamental and skills clinic run by Coach Benson and the rest of the Briar Woods staff. Learn shooting, passing, dribbling and defensive fundamentals that will make you a better basketball player. Registration can be done at the Loudoun County Parks and Recreation website. (April 14, 2008) - NOVA A.C. coaches and parents awarded “A’s” for attendance, effort, and achievement to their athletes at the opening track and field meet of the season in Chantilly on Sunday April 13. Competing in the “Hannah Skym Invitational”, organized by Chantilly Youth Association at Chantilly High School, the 58 athletes representing Loudoun based, NOVA A.C. made an excellent start to the spring track and field season with many top three places and personal best times and distances recorded. The team consisted of both experienced athletes, and first time competitors, Age ranges from 18 down to under 10’s were covered.

(April 14, 2008) - Broad Run High School will hold its fourth annual summer baseball camp this June 30th through July 4th. Camp will be run by the Broad Run coaching staff and its players. The staff will teach campers baseball fundamentals such as: hitting, throwing, fielding, pitching, bunting, etc., and there will be daily games, scrimmages, and contests, as well. Sign up soon. (April 7, 2008) - The Sterling Middle School Boys 7th grade travel team won the Loudoun
County Travel League Tournament on March 9, 2008. After posting a 1st place finish in the regular season with an 10 and 0 record, the Patriots swept through the tournament with a 52 to 34 win over Mercer Middle School, a 53 to 41 win over Smart's Mill Middle School and a victory over Harper Park Middle School in the Championship game.

Loudoun County Wrestling Starts Up A Summer Program
(April 3, 2008) - The Ranger Wrestling Club and the Dulles South Wrestling Club have started up summer programs to enhance the skills of wrestlers of all ages. Summer programs of the past have been centered around specific schools and certain days, but this year, thanks to the hard work and dedication of Loudoun County coach Joel Caruso, and the Freedom coaching staff, two programs have been started for area wrestlers.

APEX Crowns Optional State Champions, Qualifies 20 to Regionals
(April 1, 2008) - APEX gymnasts recently crowned 4 state champions at Level 9, boys and girls, and qualified 20 gymnasts to their respective regional competitions. APEX also had great team finishes with the Boys Level 4 and Level 7 finishing 3rd in states and the Boys Level 6 finished 4th.

Panthers Boys Basketball Camp
(Mar. 28, 2008) -Panther Boys Basketball Camp will be held July 7-11 at River Bend Middle School. The cost is only $90 for the entire week. This will be the 11th annual Panther Camp under the direction of Potomac Falls High School Head Basketball Coach Jeff Hawes. The camp focuses on improving the fundamentals of basketball while also competing in 1 on 1, 3 on 3, and 5 on 5 play. APEX Heads to Virginia Beach
(Mar. 26, 2008) - APEX Gymnastics sends 14 optional girls team members, levels 8 - 10 and 19 boys team members, levels 4 -10 to Virginia Beach this weekend to compete for various state titles and for berths to Regionals. APEX Gymnastics has qualified gymnasts to Regionals every year since opening in 1997.

(Mar. 25, 2008) - Eastern Loudoun Lacrosse is a non-profit organization run by volunteers to provide the children of Eastern Loudoun County the opportunity to learn and play Lacrosse, the fastest game on two feet. Eastern Loudoun Lacrosse serves children from Briar Woods, Broad Run, Dominion, Freedom, Park View, Potomac Falls, and Stone Bridge school districts.
